"Planta rectangular irregular, composto por um volume central octogonal que se articula, através de dois volumes rectangulares, com dois corpos laterais ovalados, possuindo coberturas diferenciadas em terraço, excepto no central, em cúpula, constituindo o Observatório propriamente dito. Surge, ainda, um edifício anexo de três andares, onde se localizavam as salas de aula, a Biblioteca e os gabinetes de professores, e uma pequena construção de madeira, originalmente utilizada para calibração de instrumentos e reprodução das condições de trabalho existentes nas missões nas ex-colónias. Fachada principal virada a E., rasgada por portal de verga recta, tendo, no corpo central, remate em frontão semicircular. É rasgado regularmente por janelas rectilíneas e portas de verga recta. No INTERIOR, a Sala da Meridiana, de planta ligeiramente curva, toda apainelada com madeiras exóticas (onde predomina o mogno da Guiné) formando diversas molduras com ornamentação muito rica, tendo vários tectos revestidos a estuque decorativo. Em algumas dependências, existem bancos de madeira decorados com as constelações do zodíaco *1."

"Irregular rectangular plan, consisting of a central octagonal volume that is articulated through two rectangular volumes, with two side oval bodies having different coverings terraced except central dome, constituting the Observatory itself. It also comes a neighboring building with three floors, where were located the classrooms, the library and faculty offices, and a small wooden building, originally used for instrument calibration and reproduction of existing conditions of work in the missions in former colonies. Main facade facing E., torn by portal straight lintel, and on the central body, shot in semicircular pediment. It is regularly torn by rectilinear windows and doors straight lintel. INSIDE, the Sala Meridiana, slightly curved plant, all paneled with exotic woods (mahogany dominated Guinea) forming several frames with rich ornamentation, and several decorative plaster paneled ceilings. In some facilities, there are wooden benches decorated with zodiac constellations * 1."
