"The Condes Cinema opened in 1951. It was designed by architect Raul Tojal within the shell of the earlier Teatro da Rua dos Condos of 1888.
Its simple Art Moderne styled auditorium was tall and had seating on orchestra level and two balconies. Exit doors on the right hand side of the orchestra level opened up straight onto the street.
The Condes was equipped for 70mm film presentation.
After closing in the late 1990’s it lay unused for a while until it was converted into a Hard Rock Cafe which opened on 15th June 2003. The exterior facade of the building has been cleaned up and restored, but sadly the conversion gutted the interior of the cinema, removing all traces of its decorative scheme."
