This fort was built (mostly bricks and plaster) in 1783 by king Rama I and it's currently one of the two remaining forts of the general plan to fortify the city.
The timing was perfect as in 1785 the Burmese attacked and sieged Bangkok, without success.
The fort has two levels of battlements where cannons were placed (originals still there) and a higher tower used as observation place.
The fort was renovated in 1981, by the Fine Arts Department, using old photos for an accurate final result.
It is registered as national monument since 1949.
