Small Baroque church of St. Mary Magdalene (Kostel Sv. Márí Magdaleny), located on the top of Skalka hill above town Mníšek pod Brdy, was built by a prominent Bohemian Baroque architect Kryštof Dientzenhofer in years 1692-1693.
This beautiful small chruch, which construction was financed by owner of Mníšek demesne Servác Ignác Engel of Engelsfluss, belongs among fine examples of radical Baroque style typical for Czech lands. The church is designed according to chapel in Aix-en-Provence, where Mary Magdalene died. The church is located on the geologically very risky site, on the edge of steep hillside above the iron mine. Thanks to mining was church during its existence damaged by soil slides. Rich and unusual cave-designed interior with numerous sculptures and valuable altar unfortunately disappeared during last 100 years. Exterior and walls od this heavily damaged structure was finally reconstructed in the end of XXth century and nowadays church serves as gallery and concert hall.
