The Orpheum Theatre opened in 1913 as a vaudeville house, and seats just under 700 (originally seating 1000). Over the next 80+ years, this theater has been the setting for some of the region's most memorable events including vaudeville, plays, concerts and other productions. It was even used as a movie theater during a portion of its history.

This elegant and beautifully-preserved theatre served as a vaudeville house until 1954, when the Community Playhouse group acquired the Orpheum for its home.

Known for its superb acoustics, the theater receives over 100,000 visitors each year, and events there include plays, concerts, community events and private rentals.

The Orpheum is rumored to be haunted by a ghost who has been named named "Larry", whose identity is unknown, but was thought to have been either a construction worker or stagehand in life.

The theater was owned by the Orpheum Circuit, Inc., a company started by Martin Beck who owned a series of vaudeville theatres and motion picture theatres. The company merged with the chain of theatres owned by Benjamin Franklin Keith and Edward Franklin Albee II to form Keith-Albee-Orpheum.
