According to this warning sign pedestrians have a nasty habit of tripping over here.

So why are pedestrians so careless around here?

The sign is actually near to the entrance of a marina, and the picture on the sign looks like the pedestrian is tripping over one of the bollards used to tie the boats up.

However the words underneath give the real reason - 'Estenedor de xarxes'. In English this means 'Nets drying'.

Although most of the boats in the marina are small privately owned boats, it is also used by working fishing boats. The fishermen use the wharves to dry their nets and in so doing create the trip hazard for anyone walking nearby.
