Eos was the Greek Goddess of the dawn. She was the sister of the Sun God Helios and the Moon Goddess Selene.

A relief of Eos is part of the Gigantomachy Frieze in Berlin's Pergamon Museum.

The main belt asteroid 221 Eos is named after her. It was named in honor of the opening of a new observatory in Vienna that was hoped to bring about a new dawn for astronomy.

No picture of the asteroid could be found.
