This postal card showing Chicago’s Orchestra Hall was part of the historic preservation series of postal cards and the first to show the interior of its subject. It was issued in 1990 coinciding with the centennial year of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra which was founded in 1891.
Orchestra Hall was designed by architect Daniel Burnham and completed in late 1904. The first concert was held on December 14 of that year. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978 and designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1994.
The view on the stamp is from the uppermost gallery or Flynn Gallery as it is called on the seating charts.
