Note: This benchmark is not in its original location, and as such, the surveying body would consider it as "Destroyed" given that it can no longer be used for its original purpose. The benchmark remains today for reasons of preservation only.

The Oak Lawn School only had a few years to live when this one was documented in 1966. The marker is still on the site, and easily located approximately two feet high, plus or minus, on the brick monument behind the Texas Historical Marker that gives some background on the school. The monument itself is on the south side of Wyatt St where it intersects with E Parks Avenue.

A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED F 967 1946 AND SET VERTICALLY. NOTE-- THE MARK MAY BE REACHED FROM THE COURT HOUSE IN WAXAHACHIE, BY GOING EASTERLY 0.3 MILE ALONG U. S. HIGHWAY 287 TO A STOP LIGHT, THENCE EAST 0.4 MILE TO THE OAK LAWN SCHOOL AND SITE OF BENCH MARK.

The Texas Historical Marker is worth a read:

Oak Lawn began as an elementary school for blacks in 1887 on North Aiken Street. In 1893 the school moved to this site. By the end of the 19th Century, High School classes had been added to the curriculum. Two of the first graduates, Prince Goldthwaite and Robert Davis, later became Oak Lawn High School Principals. Oak Lawn experienced tremendous growth during the 20th century, so the elementary and high schools were separated in 1952. The building at this site continued to serve grades one through seven until the school was closed permanently in 1970. (1985)
