This dark grey granite and concrete marker is located at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The marker has a top of light grey granite - the Woodmen seal is centered. The dark grey granite is used for the inscription, which reads:

Alton W. Weddell
July 20, 1861 - Dec. 13, 1907

Ida E. Weddell
Aug. 11, 1873 - Dec. 14, 1946

Gone but not forgotten

The family name - Weddell - appears at the bottom in light grey granite. The plinth is concrete.

"Buried with Alton and Ida Weddell are two brothers, Shelby Marion Weddell, Arminus Weddell, Father Joel Grantham Weddell, infant Alton William Witherspoon and Mary Thurston. The 1900 Census shows Alton as a carpenter for the railroad. A marriage search with Greene Co. Recorder provides further information Florence Haguewood married Alton, the year and date are not provided though however. The 1900 census though provides information that they were married a year prior, 1898 or 1899, the year their first child Edith Florence was born. The 1905 Directory for Springfield lists Alton as a Carpenter living at 2143 Springfield Ave. and working at the Northside Shops in Springfield."
