"This unique geological formation of its kind in the world consists of a promontory originated in the primordial volcanic eruptions in the geological formation of the island, but also by recent volcanic events that gave rise to new phenomena."
"Among these phenomena is a volcanic crater which originated as a result of small steam explosions resulting from contact of hot lava with sea water and the existence of a complex thermal and natural pools where we can swim in the sea water hot volcanic.
Given its characteristics Ponta da Ferraria (and nearby Pico das Camarinhas) was classified as a Regional Natural Monument and Protected Landscape under the Natura 2000, under the name : Regional Natural Monument Peak of Camarinhas and Ponta da Ferraria."
