Kapli zasvecenou Nejsvetejší Trojici nechal v roce 1693 zrídit tehdejší velitel špilberské pevnosti generál polní strážmistr Jan Vilém hrabe z Zinzendorfu a Pottendorfu, jak hlásá i pametní deska u vchodu. Vznikla prebudováním starších, puvodne gotických prostor severovýchodního nároží hradu v rámci jeho rozsáhlé prestavby na barokní pevnost.
