This Victorian post box is set into a wall, at the foot of some steps, just to the east of the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum.

The box, that is in fair to good condition. It is no longer in use as a blanking plate is situated in the opening to prevent mail, or other rubbish, being inserted.

In the window where the collection times are normally shows is a note, that has suffered from damp, but reads:

This Victorian post box was cast
during the period 1881 - 1901 by
W T Allen & Co London at their
[xx]erwood foundry in Mansfield.
It was formerly sited at the
Docks Post Office in Commercial Road.
The office was closed in 1916
[unreadable] box was withdrawn
from service on the [x]th April 1982.

At the foot of the box, below the door, is the wording W T Allen & Co London.

The area is being regenerated to make it more appealing and it is being done quite successfully.
