First erected and displayed by West Kootenay Power & Light in 1933, this neon sign was the first in Creston. No longer possessing any of its neon tubing, at least the sign itself still exists.
West Kootenay Power Sign
Donated by West Kootenay Power
Our Top 30 includes quite a few "firsts," including the top pick for 1986. This is the first neon sign in Creston. It hung on the front of what is now the Creston Valley Advance building from 1933 to 1958; at the time, that building housed the West Kootenay Power office and store (the initials on the bottom of the sign stand for West Kootenay Power and Light Company). Another reason to love it: the slogan "Home of Electric Servants" makes it a great representative of the era when electricity in the home was new and exciting and having all sorts electric appliances (the electric "servants") would make life so much easier.
