Town Hall is located in a metal building at 211 Cedar Avenue, at the corner of 2nd Street, which is historic Route 66. The administrative offices are located at the south end of the building, with three large overhead doors at the north end housing the fire department.
The Wellston area was originally part of the Old Kickapoo Reservation. The town is named for Christian T. Wells, who opened a trading post on the reservation in the early 1880s. The area was opened for white settlement with the Land Run of May 23, 1895. A post office has been located in Wellston since September 19, 1884.
