On the front wall of the church, to the right of the main entrance at the top of the stairs, is a bronze plaque dedicated to Earl C. Ward (1897 - 2004).
Earl lived to be 106 years and eight months old, passing away on September 11, 2004, with his family at his side. Earl was elected an Elder of St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church in 1957. He later served as Clerk of Session for almost 30 years, and as the Presbytery's Treasurer for a number of years. As a beloved member for over 50 years, he will be sadly missed.
From Earl's obituary
St. Stephens was built in 1909. A church manse was built in 1910. Much later, in 1959, a Christian Education wing was added to the church. Though no longer used as an education centre it remains in use as the church hall.
The congregation was established in 1907, two years before the construction of the church. During this time the congregation met in a local school. When church union created the United Church of Canada in 1925, the congregation voted against union and has since remained within The Presbyterian Church in Canada.
