The COLUMBUS PUBLIC LIBRARY (open 9-9 weekdays, 9-5:30 June-Sept., Sat. 9-9), Grant Ave. at the end of E. State St., is known also as the Carnegie Library. The building, completed in 1906, is 220 by 90 feet, of marble and granite construction in French Renaissance style. Its erection, equipment, and site cost $380,000; Andrew Carnegie contributed $200,000, and the city the remainder. Albert Randolph Ross of New York was the architect. With its five branches, the library contains nearly 300,000 volumes. ---Ohio: The Ohio Guide, 1940
