In 1925 the town of Creston purchased a building on 11th Avenueto use for the fire hall. That was one block east of the present fire hall. In October of 1931, the town bought a bell for the hall at a cost of $116.17. Five decades later, in 1981, the Town purchased the old Overwaitea Store at 200—10th Avenue North to renovate it into a better fire hall. This is today's fire hall. When the fire department moved they brought the bell with them but didn't mount it on the fire hall.
Eventually it managed to get itself mounted for display in front of the fire hall. The date on the concrete base is the date this fire hall was opened for business, which was May of 1982.
The bell was manufactured by The C.S. Bell Company of Hillsboro, Ohio. Its age is unknown. A cast steel bell, it could have been cast anywhere between 1894 and 1931. The
C.S. Bell Company, under variants of this name, operated from 1875 until the 1970s.
