The Creston Fire Department came into existence on February 21, 1899. The first Fire Department list of volunteers contained 29 names. The department's first fire truck was a refitted a Chevy truck, purchased in October 1931 for $325. Their next truck was came in 1951, built by locals, with a 175 GPM pump and 250 gallon tank, two wooden and one aluminum ladder. In 1956 a Lafrance Ford pumper, known as Engine 1, was purchased and served until being sold to Pleasant Valley, Idaho in 1998.

In 1981 the Town purchased the old Overwaitea Store at 200—10th Avenue North to renovate it into a better fire hall. Opened in May of 1982, it remains the fire hall you see here. Now known as Creston Fire and Rescue, the department has 30 plus members who respond to 200 plus calls per year. The department is comprised of a full time Fire Chief and a full time Deputy Fire Chief, with the rest of the members providing paid, on-call services.
