A memorial to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Lynn R. Smith, who was killed in the line of duty in 1957, stands in front of the King County Courthouse in downtown Guthrie TX. It is the most northerly of three memorials to King County law enforcement personnel who have died in public service.
The monument reads as follows:
"We the People of the State of Texas acknowledge and thank Trooper Lynn Ray Smith for the great sacrifice made to keep the public safe. His efforts will stand the test of time. May God Bless his soul. Jan 23, 1957"

End of Watch: Friday, January 25, 1957
Patrolman Smith was struck and killed by a truck while running radar. He had been with the agency for one year and was stationed in Matador."
