Near the ball diamonds and the parking lot is a little sculpture park, containing large man made rocks, this baseball and bat, and a soccer ball. Substantially larger than life size, this baseball and bat are set among the rocks. The ball is close to three feet in diameter while the bat is about 12 to 15 feet in length. They are extremely authentic looking, other than their size. There is no indication of who the artist may have been.
This athletic park could be referred to as Tournament Central, as it contains four ball diamonds, four soccer fields, a football field, a fieldhouse and a playground for the kids. A really large open park, it was officially dedicated October 1st, 2005, not coincidentally Cranbrook's centennial year. As well, the park has a large parking lot in the centre, next to the field house which, incidentally, was a Cranbrook Rotary Sunrise project.
The park is named after and dedicated to George T. Moir (1871 - 1955), an indefatigable supporter and driving force behind athletics in the City of Cranbrook.
The fields can be adapted to host a variety of activities such as lacrosse and field hockey. The multi-level layout also creates effective backdrops so that the facility can be safely used for sports such as archery.
