"This bench mark was used during the First primary levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 96.1310 feet [29.3007 metres] above mean sea level (Liverpool datum). It was included as a side level on the Coventry to Lincoln levelling line. The surveyor's description was Carcolston Church. Bolt in North-west angle of tower ; 2.90 ft. above surface."
