In Christian beliefs, the Saint Mary, betrothed of St. Joseph was the recipient of the miracle of the immaculate conception, which resulted in the birth of Jesus. Roman Catholics in particular venerate Mary as the Mother of God. She is highly respected in most other Christian denominations. Muslims also revere Mary, not at the mother of God, but as the mother of the prophet, Jesus.
