The Whistle Stop Plaza tower was built in 1999 on the site of the city of Irving, Texas original train depot. This was where the city was founded by railroad surveyors J.O. Schulze and Otis Brown when the first lots were auctioned off on December 19, 1903.
The clock tower stands 70 feet high, and its walls face the N/E/S/W cardinal points. Its Southern wall is decorated with a simple sundial with a triangular metal gnomon and unmarked hour lines. Many visitors come here and take pictures of the tower, its prominent clocks at its top and all the surrounding historical markers... yet sadly few pay notice to this particular sundial with its unique, clean design.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
