This monument was erected in 1917 to commemorate the sacrifices made by Indiana's men and women to the Civil War. Each side contains a plaque with divisions and companies on it, and the names of the men that served in each division. Men killed in action are noted by a star by their name.
There is a statue in each corner of the monument, representing the major military branches. Each side also contains an inscription, including an excerpt from the Gettysburg address.
The monument is topped by another statue which I believe is "victory". She holds a laurel wreath in her outstretched left hand, and the flag in her right.
The monument is surrounded on all sides by flowers and a lovely paved path and benches.
Angola has also provided high-powered lights so the monument is illuminated at night.
Memorial Day weekend there is a large ceremony and the grass surrounding the flower / garden area and memorial is covered with United States Flags.
