The
North West Mounted Police Cemetery in Battleford dates back to the early days of the Canadian westward expansion.
Located several kms. from the old Fort Battleford, the cemetery is located on a prairie ridge overlooking the North Saskatchewan River.
The entrance to the cemetery is marked by a heavy stone and wood arch. On the face of the right hand stone pillar is a bronze plaque honouring the members of the Northwest Mounted Police who served during the time of the development and settlement of the Canadian West.
There are less than 25 grave sites.
The cemetery features a large memorial flanked by about a dozen headstones. The memorial was placed “In memory of North West Mounted Police Members who lie in unmarked graves.”
