Old Trail Cemetery Arch - Trail, British Columbia - Freestanding Arches on Waymarking.com

The Trail Cemetery was established in the late 1800's and was located in the Tadanac area of Trail on Aldridge Avenue. In 1957, it was decided to relocate the cemetery. All interments were moved to this location.

The arch over the entry is very similar to its counterpart across the highway at the Mountain View Cemetery with stone pillars, which support an all steel arch. The arch consists of a pair of square steel tubes with coarse wire mesh stretching between them as a background for the lettering, the whole supported by equally sized steel tubes mounted in the stone pillars.

The old monuments which could be moved were saved and placed in several rows in the back part of the cemetery.

The headstones do seem to be well maintained. None of the remains were buried in this area. The burials are all out in the main part of the cemetery using the new flat stones to identify the gravesites.

No new burials take place nor are new lots being sold in this cemetery. However, there are a few exceptions due to previously purchased plots or agreements.

There are approximately 800 gravesites.

There is also an old Legion cenotaph located in the cemetery.
