This simple wooden cross replaces the original cross which was erected here in 1921, it commemorates the lives of the men of the parish of Layer-de-la-Haye who died in the two World Wars.
The cross is made of oak which has weathered to a gorgeous silver grey colour. It is set up on the edge of the village green by the main cross roads and has three sets of brick steps, octagonal in form, with an infill of terra-cotta tiles giving a herringbone pattern and patterning below the brick edging.
The cross bar of the cross bears the following dedication:
GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN
THIS. THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS
LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS John xv 13
The names of the fallen are inscribed on the mail vertical and read:
