The original telephone exchange for Charlton was located on the first floor of this house. It was established in 1902 and continued to 1954 by the Woodbury family. They also owned the store next door which replaced a brick building that burned in 1885. The Woodbury's were active in the Improvement Society and Old Home Day. The first Town Pound was located on this property built in 1761.
