" If you look closely at the photograph you will see that a name has been removed. The story goes that this young man (name withheld) did not return from the trenches and was presumed dead. However, a few years later, he was discovered in another part of the country. He had decided not to return to the village, as he wished to run away from his wife/girlfriend! By which time, the memorial had been erected and, as the village had no money to replace it, his name was just cut out."
