"This building served as a spiritual; center. Soldiers stationed at the Headlands once gathered here for religious service. Built in 1941, the chapel was designed to accommodate several faiths under one roof. For thirty years, Army chaplains offered catholic, protestant and Jewish services to young men preparing for war. When the army left the Headlands in 1972, the chapel was abandoned. Twenty years alter the National Parks Service - in partnership with the Golden Gate National Park Association - restored the building to its current condition. The work was completed with the help of many private donors. Today the chapel continues to serve as a special gathering place. It is now a center for park visitors and the entire Headlands community."
