Utilizing a four cylinder, overhead valve gasoline engine, this Kohler Power & Light genset produces 110 volt DC electricity and is capable of putting out 1, 500 watts at 1,000 RPM. It is a model D, Serial Number 7323. This serial number seems to date the genset to about 1924. The engine, with a bore and stroke of 2" X 4" and a compression ratio of about 5:1, produced about 5 HP.
In 1920 Kohler, of Kohler, WI began making gensets with the Model "A", of similar size, design and capacity to this Model D. These became quite popular in rural areas, bringing many of the modcons of the city to the farm.
Though this and many other great pieces of machinery are in a museum, they are all parts of outdoor displays, for which there is no charge to view.
