One of the many implements on display in the Creston Museum, this bean thresher is, in our experience, quite a rarity.

In other areas these are probably quite common, but in this neck of the woods, this is the first bean thresher we've encountered. In use locally from 1919 to 1940, this would have been made in the teens. With a flat belt drive, it would have been driven by a small stationary gasoline engine.

The only maker's name found on the thresher is that of the J.L. Owens Company, of Minneapolis, MN. The J. L. Owens & Company was organized in 1895 by John J. Owens and manufactured grain cleaning machinery, bean and pea threshers, all of which were of John Owens' own invention.

This is one of the many outdoor displays, for which there is no admission fee required.
