(Inlaid onto front of flagpole base:) IT IS FITTING THAT THE FLAG/OF OUR COUNTRY SHOULD FLY HERE IN HONOR OF THOSE MEN/WHO, INSPIRED BY A VISION OF/LOVELY LANDS MADE FRUITFUL,/CONCEIVED THIS GREAT WORK/AND OF THOSE OTHERS WHOSE/GENIUS AND LABOR MADE THAT/VISION A REALITY (Inlaid on terrazo star map floor:) POLARIS/TO PROJECT POINT OF THE EARTH'S NORTH POLE/ON THIS 30TH DAY/ON THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER/IN THE YEAR (INCARNATIONIS/DOMI NICAE ANNO M CM XXXV) 1935,/FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT, 32ND/PRESIDENT OF THESE UNITED STATES/OF AMERICA DEDICATED TO THE SERVICE/OF OUR PEOPLE THIS DAM, POWER PLANT,/AND RESERVOIR.
Description:
Two winged figures, seated on blocks of black diorite, on either side of a 142 ft. high flagpole. The winged nude figures are identical and have their arms uplifted in an acute vertical angle. The sculpture rests on a terrazo floor upon which is inlaid a star chart."
