There are many more unreadable markers at this abandoned cemetery than there are readable markers. Although the topographic maps and
BillonGraves call this Valley View Cemetery, FindAGrave calls it Ricketts Cemetery and lists
14 interments. There are approximately 25 grave markers here, most of which are just laying in pieces on the ground. A couple of them are standing and in good condition. Of the legible grave markers, the earliest is from 1858 and the last is from 1919.
Visiting this cemetery: You should use an off-the-road vehicle. Not all SUVs are off-the-road! Usually Little Sugar Creek is dry or very low, but if it is running high, you cannot get to the cemetery.
Navigate Price Coffee road to
N36°24.200',W94°10.619'
, at which point you turn north into the field. There is a faint roadway, but be careful. There are some deep holes - remnants of former stuck-vehicle situations - in the middle of the two-track. You will be crossing the creek bed for Little Sugar Creek, then head further northeast until you drive past a fence (no gate), then the path turns northwest. The cemetery is under the sparse grove of trees.
