A glimpse of history can be realized from reading the 1940 travel guide : SOUTHWEST TEXAS STATE TEACHERS' COLLEGE, on a 28-acre tract on Austin St., has nine major buildings of brick and reinforced concrete, of modern mixed architecture, three framed cottages, and a large gymnasium of tile and concrete. A 40-acre demonstration farm, part of the college plant, adjoins the campus, making available extensive facilities for demonstration work in dairying and poultry raising. The college has an annual enrollement of about 1,000 students during regular terms, and more than double that number for shorter summer sessions.
----- From "Texas: Guide to the Lone Star State" (1940)

Now Texas State University, the school has expanded across 475 acres to have 35,000 students learning in a larger facility of 225 buildings. Agriculture and Education are still majors being offered but also degrees in Business Administration, Arts, Communication, Health Professions, Science, Technology, and Engineering can be pursued.
