In Memory of Lt. Col. Charles S. Stewart, Mobile, Alabama of the 21st. Regiment Alabama Volunteers, who was in command of this fort when killed here April 30, 1863.

Presented by his granddaughter, Mrs. Julia Praytor Killingsworth
Summerville, Ala.

Col. Stewart commanded Fort Morgan. He was killed by 200 lb. piece of an exploded, accidentally double loaded 32-pounder fired as a test.
