Paul King was the first service man killed in World War II from Marceline December 7th, 1941 (Pearl Harbor). Kenny Stephenson was the first service man killed in the Vietnam War from Marceline.
"Post 264 of the American Legion was originally chartered as the Theodore Roosevelt Post. The men back from Europe and The Great War formed the Post in 1919. Meetings were held in various members homes until shortly after World War II when the current Legion Building was purchased. Most people are unaware that the American Legion building was owned by the Legion itself, along with the VFW and the Purple Heart Club. The Purple Heart Club disbanded sometime in the forties or fifties, leaving the VFW and American Legion sole owners of this building." ~ American Legion Post 264
