"The Porta Nuova is the name of a gate of the walls . The door was opened in the existing medieval walls by the then Duke of Florence , Cosimo I de 'Medici in 1562 and is known as New as more recent than the original Lion's Gate and Porta Santa Maria as an entrance to the Piazza del Duomo ."
