Brooke Army Medical Center is a major military hospital in the northeast corner of San Antonio, TX. In late 2012 through 2013, BAMC went through significant rebuilding, adding a badly needed multistory parking garage and adding multistory hospital wings onto existing facilities. As a result, the city improved the sidewalks around this intersection where IH-35, its IH-35 (Pan Am Hwy) Frontage Rd, Sequin Rd, and Binz-Engleman Rd cross in a large three-way intersection.

The benchmark is on the top edge of the four box culvert drainage constructed under the road at the intersection of Benz-Engleman Rd and IH-35 (Pan Am Highway) Frontage Rd. I had to scrape off the pile of dirt that was left after the reconstruction of the sidewalks in order to find the benchmark. It is still there, in good condition.
Be very careful with traffic. You will have to cross the frontage road in order to get to the edge of the culvert to see the benchmark. Watch the stop lights and look both ways. Follow the pedestrian crossing guides for crossing the streets and you can cross safely, using caution and following the correct traffic signals. A sidewalk goes within 15 feet of the benchmark, so you can get to it safely if you pay attention.
