Harold Pelham has a car accident and is badly injured. Whilst being operated on two hearts beats occur on the monitor. Upon recovering from the operation he finds that his world has been turned upside down. He appears to be living a totally different life, and friends say they have seen him at places he doesn’t normally go to. He now has a mistress and is making strange business decisions. He starts to get paranoid and verges on a nervous breakdown until he discovers he has a double.
