The Ship public house is on the south side of Hart Street close to the junction with Mark Lane in the City of London. The building, dated 1887, seems out of place squeezed in amongst modern buildings with its decorative facade.

The sign hangs from the pub's wall. It has a black background with the word "SHIP" along the top in white lettering. Beneath the name is a picture of a sailing ship under full sail heading in the viewers direction. Waves are breaking around the ship and it looks as though it is a force 5 or 6 that is helping the ship along.
