This park was named in honor of local columnist and civic activist Earl Lifshey. He was a longtime resident of nearby Galt Ocean Mile and was instrumental in beautifying that area. Named Fort Lauderdale Citizen of the Year in 1996, he died in March 1998.

To encourage visits to the city parks, the City of Fort Lauderdale placed a disk in ten of its parks. A web page was then created giving the location of each park and individuals were encouraged to find all ten and submit documentation to receive a reward.
This page shows a picture of one of the disks, located here in Earl Lifshey Ocean Park. By accessing the web site listed below you could locate the other nine parks.

Parking is limited in the immediate area, but more available within a short walk.
