The site for the Campbell cemetery was chosen by Alexander Campbell following the death of his fifth child, Amanda, in 1820 when she was under a year old. The cemetery was surrounded by a stone wall constructed of large stones from two old flour mills located along Buffalo Creek following Alexander Campbell's death in 1866. The cemetery is the final resting place of several members of the Campbell family, including 13 of the 14 children of Alexander. Among is nearly 300 graves are also those of early church leaders and missionaries of the Restoration Movement along with early presidents and distinguished faculty of Bethany College. The Bethany Community Cemetery is located near this cemetery.
