Just across Seventh Street at this point stands Henry Ellicott's imposing equestrian statue (8) of Gen. Winfield Scott Hancock, erected by the government in 1896.
In this bronze sculpture, General Hancock is riding a horse. He's holding a pair of binoculars in his right hand and his horse's reins with his left hand. The statue was commissioned on March 2, 1889, and dedicated on May 12, 1896.
