William E. Evans is a local boy from Hockley County who was killed in action in WWI. This tree was planted by the local American Legion Post No. 417 in his honor. The Levelland Legion post is named the William E. Evans post, further honoring this brave young man.
The memorial is a concrete post near a large (now -- in 2014) pecan tree on the northeast corner of the Hockley County Courthouse).
