Ford's Theater, scene of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, now houses one of the largest collections of Lincoln relics in existence. The relics are the chief attraction, since little is left of the interior of the theater as it stood on the tragic night of April 14, 1865, when John Wilkes Booth stole into the President's box with pistol and dagger in his hands. ---Washington City and Capital 1937
This historic theater was used for a variety of stage performances beginning in the 1860s. The theater is now preserved as Ford's Theatre National Historic Site, along with the Petersen House across the street where Lincoln was carried to and died after being shot.
