Le plan en croix latine de cet édifice en pierre est composé d'une nef rectangulaire à trois vaisseaux, d'un transept et d'un choeur en saillie plus étroit terminé par une abside en hémicycle. Deux absidioles semi-circulaires sont rattachées aux bras du transept. La façade éclectique présente une tour centrale demi-hors-œuvre coiffée d'un clocher et est flanquée de tourelles surmontées de clochetons. Une sacristie en pierre, composée de deux corps de bâtiment de plan rectangulaire à un étage, est greffée à l'abside. La cathédrale de Joliette s'élève au cœur d'un ensemble religieux catholique comprenant aussi l'évêché (relié à la sacristie par un chemin couvert), l'ancien séminaire diocésain et l'ancien noviciat des Clercs de Saint-Viateur. Elle se situe en retrait de la voie publique, à proximité de la rivière L'Assomption, au centre de la ville de Joliette.
The Latin cross plan of this stone building consists of a rectangular nave with three aisles, a transept and a choir narrower projection ending in a semicircular apse. Two semicircular apses are attached to the transept. Eclectic facade has a central tower with a bell-half off work and is flanked by turrets topped by pinnacles. Sacristy stone, consisting of two buildings with a rectangular floor plan, is grafted to the apse. Joliette Cathedral stands in the heart of a Catholic religious complex comprising the bishopric (connected to the sacristy by a covered walkway), the former diocesan seminary and the former novitiate of the Clerics of Saint Viator. It is located off the highway near the Assomption River in the center of the city of Joliette.
