In Tibet in 1945 Lt Stanislav of the Red Army discovers a Buddhist temple with a rabbit that was born in 1904. In England in 1965 a Red Army soldier massacres a Salvation Army band. The soldier dies of old age shortly afterwards.

In France in 1977 another Red Army soldier kills some teenagers in an old garage. When Steed, Purdey and Gambit investigate they hear gun fire from a nearby hill. A group of Red Army troops have been attacking a deserted chateau. The Russians ambush Steed and co, but Gambit manages to overpower one of the soldiers. Whilst the soldier looks only in his twenties, his papers suggest he was born in 1925. The captured soldier rapidly ages after he dies. It is discovered that he had a radio device implanted in his skull. Steed manages to connect the French village with the earlier attack on the English village. Bothe villages had a US air base nearby

Meanwhile in Russia Colonel Stanislav is told that a satellite that developed a fault in 1965 has failed again. France is being attacked by soviet troops because of it. Stanislave goes to Paris to explain the situation to Ambassador Toy. Toy rings Steed and tells him that World War III may be about to start. Commandos manage to eliminate 250 of the Red Army, however there are still 2 soldiers outstanding. The 2 remaining soldiers were special K forces, with a mission to kill.

The two agents, Stanislav and Turkov, kill a French General. The general is to be given a state funeral and the President of France will be attending. The President is the target for the K men. Tirkov installs himself in a bell tower and switches off the electric bell. As the church bell doesn’t chime, Gambit realises where Turkov is hiding. Steed tackles Turkov, whilst Gambit and Purdey go into the woods in search of STanislav. Stanislav wings Gambit, but Purdey kills him by taking the handbrake off his car.
