"It was a place where were settled other hermits who lived in Torres Vedras, which were often annoyed by the Arab presence that occupied the region. The advance of the sea and the natural erosion of time made ??it necessary to move its location to a more remote part of the beach (in the thirteenth century), and which was to be rebuilt in the sixteenth century a little higher, giving rise to what is now called Old Convent, of the ruins now remain a part of the original facade.
In 1755, the earthquake and resulting tsunami destroyed the convent and made uninhabitable, forcing them to relocate to the new convent, whose construction was completed in 1790."
